San Juan City honors Tzu Chi Foundation as pandemic partner
By Joy Rojas
The City Government of San Juan recognized the Tzu Chi Foundation and other notable partners for their valuable contributions to its COVID-19 efforts in San Juan City’s 115th annual Foundation Day on March 27. Held at the FilOil Flying V Centre, the formal event was called “Araw ng San Juan: Pagpaparangal at Pagkilala para sa mga Natatanging Institusyon at Mamamayan ng San Juan.”
Tzu Chi volunteers Alvin Acero and Carmen Sy accepted the plaque of appreciation on behalf of Tzu Chi Philippines CEO Henry Yuňez. “In grateful appreciation and recognition of its outstanding efforts in providing support to the City of San Juan and its constituents since the start of the pandemic,” read the plaque. “Its contribution as a relentless partner of the City Government of San Juan has been of great impact on its efficient and notable COVID-19 responses.”
At the start of the pandemic in March 2020, the Alumni Association of Xavier Schools, Inc. (AAXS), Xavier School, and the City Government of San Juan helped prevent the spread of COVID-19 through their initiative “KKK: Kalinga Kontra Korona.” This initiative turned the 4-storey, 15-room San Juan City Science High School building into a venue to house COVID-positive patients with mild symptoms as well as persons under investigation (PUI). The Tzu Chi Foundation, which conducted rice relief distributions for tricycle drivers, blind massage therapists, and other sectors affected by the pandemic, donated 100 beds through the AAXS.
