Quezon City Chinatown Heritage Tour goes to Tzu Chi Foundation
By Marella Saldonido
On February 9, the Tzu Chi Foundation Philippines welcomed around a hundred guests from the media, social media, and the Quezon City government at the Tzu Chi Foundation Philippines’ Quezon City office on Agno Street.
The city’s local government organized a three-day Chinese New Year celebration from February 9 to 11, which included a Chinatown Heritage Tour to promote Banawe Street, the city’s Chinatown district. The Tzu Chi Foundation’s Agno Street office was one of the stops of the tour, along with Sheng Lian Temple, the Wow Toy Museum, and the Filipino-Chinese Friendship Arch.
Tzu Chi volunteers warmly welcomed the guests and guided them around the building—from the lobby to the Jing Si Bookstore and the Jing Si Hall located in the basement. The guests spent their time exploring the building and learning more about the foundation, as well as the products from the Jing Si Bookstore, which were available for the guests to purchase. Tzu Chi’s Quezon City office also houses the Tzu Chi Great Love Preschool Philippines.
At the end of the tour, each guest was given a Tzu Chi booklet, a lucky charm, a coin bank, and Tzu Chi’s red envelope (angpao), blessed by the foundation’s founder, Dharma Master Cheng Yen.
Chinese New Year celebrations continue on February 10, with a Lion and Dragon Dance presentation around the area, a Chinatown float parade, and Chinese calligraphy and painting demonstration.
The QC Association of Filipino-Chinese Businessmen Inc., the QC Chinatown Development Foundation Inc., and the Federation of Filipino Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry Inc. are partners of this event.
