Tzu Chi donates Panasonic light bulbs to partner organizations, institutions
By Dorothy Castro
Tzu Chi’s recent collaboration with Panasonic opened doors for lighting up more communities when it donated 10,200 light bulbs as part of its “Light up the Future” project last September 30.
From October 13 to 14, Tzu Chi turned over these donations to partner institutions, including Tahanang Walang Hagdanan, the Prosthesis and Braces Center, the Philippine Red Cross, Angat Buhay, and Project PEARLS.
This heartfelt effort not only provides light to every home, it makes livelihood possible. “We are very grateful because this is a big help for us,” said Marites Burce, project coordinator of Tahanang Walang Hagdanan’s fundraising department. They look forward to using these lightbulbs for the foundation’s Gift Shop as well as their offices.
For the Philippine Red Cross, this donation came at a time of need. Recent months brought a series of typhoons, landslides, and earthquakes across different areas of the Philippines, prompting a need for support toward the recovery of affected families whose homes were destroyed during these devastating events.
“Well, this will be greatly needed in communities where we will build homes, especially now that we’ve seen many families lose their homes due to typhoons, earthquakes, flash floods, landslides, or fires,” said Philippine Red Cross Secretary General Dr. Gwendolyn Pang.
Tzu Chi also aims to turn over lightbulb donations to the National Commission for Indigenous Peoples (NCIP), and SEED Philippines, along with other like-minded organizations.
Additionally, donations were extended to Tzu Chi offices nationwide.
Through these concerted efforts, Tzu Chi continues to fulfill its mission of charity by bringing light to many communities.
“When everyone is able to exert their pure loving nature, the world would shine with the light of hope,” said Dharma Master Cheng Yen. Indeed, Panasonic’s initiative, facilitated by Tzu Chi, helped make bringing light possible to households.
