Tzu Chi Joins Runrio Earth Day Run 2024
In its first foray into running events, Tzu Chi Foundation served as the advocacy partner of Runrio’s Galaxy Watch Earth Day Run. Held at the SM Mall of Asia concert grounds on April 21, the event drew 10,000 runners in its 5K, 10K, and 21K routes.
Aside from selling sustainable products like fresh fruits, veggie sandwiches, and items from its upcycling program, Tzu Chi was also the event’s recycling manager, collecting empty PET bottles, fruit peels, and other recyclables discarded by runners in large trash bins. The effort yielded 214 kilograms of plastic bottles, 242 kilograms of fruit peels, and 20 kilograms of cartons—all of which are going to Tzu Chi’s recycling station.
Runners can expect more environment-friendly initiatives in Tzu Chi’s Charity Run for Education. Organized by Runrio, it’s scheduled for July 21 at Diliman, Quezon City.
